Getting to know you

I cannot write this post without first mentioning that I would not be responding to this unless I had not been tagged by my sweet and adorable sister-in-law, Hannah. "Being tagged" makes me feel awkward in the way receiving a chain letter makes me feel awkward. Let's just say that a lot of innocent people are probably dead because I threw a chain letter away instead of responding to it. And a lot of other people's wishes probably never came true. All because I don't respond to chain letters and tags. I am a jerk. I am sorry. But I love you, Hannah. This one's for you:

26 Things You Never Knew You Always Wanted To Know About Me

A- Attached or single: Attached
B- Best Friend: human - Kenta; electronic - a FUNCTIONING dishwasher
C-Cake or Pie: My mom's fresh blueberry pie or Lisa's key lime pie. Forget the crusts - I just like the filling
D-Day: Sunday
E-Essential Item: gotta go with Hannah on this one: my ipod. And airconditioning.
F- Favorite Color: Green
G-Gummy Bears or Worms: Sour patch kids (is that a legal response?)
H-Home town: Norman, OK. If I ever get out of here I'm going to Kathmandu.
I- Indulgences: An afternoon nap :o)
J- January or July: Why isn't June an option? I choose June. But I like the weather in January better.
K-Kids: Yes, I like them and am considering having one of my own.
L-Life is incomplete without: my crocs. Ugly as you may think they are, don't knock them until you try them.
M- Marriage Date: June 9, 2006
N- Number of Siblings: 8 - two older brothers, five older sisters and my adorable baby brother, Soren.
O-Obsession: Now that the Olympics are over, I am obsessionless.
Phobias or Fears: spiders. I just made Kenta kill one last night.
Q- Quote: “That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do; not that the nature of the thing itself is changed, but that our power to do is increased” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
R- Reason to Smile: OU football is less than a week away
S- Season: Fall - applesauce making, leaves falling, Halloween, Thanksgiving...so many reasons
T- Tag: Whoa! Not gonna do it (this is the equivalent of me throwing the chain letter away)
U- Unknown fact about me: Favorite band - Led Zeppelin. Favorite symphony - Beethoven's 7th (that's two, sorry)
V- Vegetarian or Oppressor of Animal: I am eating a piece of beef jerky right now.
W- Worst Habit: leaving my clothes on the floor? Chronic lateness? My propensity to whine? Saying "I'll do that later" and forgetting to do it? Too many to choose from.
X- X-rays or Ultrasounds: I've only had one, but I'd have to go with ultrasound on this.
Your Favorite Food: Fresh fruit - no cooking involved whatsoever.
Z- Zodiac Sign: Gemini.

I did it. I can't believe I actually did it. All the guilt of discarded chain letters has been swept away.

Let the games begin!!!

Calling me an Olympics junkie would be an understatement. I love, love, LOVE the Olympic games. Maybe it's because the best athletes from all over the world unite to compete at super-human levels. Maybe it's the heartwarming stories about athletes who overcome unbelievable odds. Or maybe I just love Bob Costas's color commentary. Whatever it is, I love the Olympics because they are full of moments like this:

I have been known to stay up until midnight watching obscure sports such as curling and synchronized diving (the men's synchronized diving is actually a little disturbing). Yesterday morning, in fact, I watched me a little handball, fencing, and equestrian. Kenta asked, "Um....is it really necessary to have the TV on all day?" C'mon! It's the Olympics! OF COURSE!!!! I can't miss a minute.

This year I've been especially excited because the last time I watched a summer Olympics, I was 17 years old and Bill Clinton was still president. I missed Athens in 2004 because I was in Peru. So this year I am PUMPED!!!

Kenta and I decided to get in the spirit Friday night by getting some Chinese takeout and watching the ceremonies together. I sat there and watched the entire FOUR hours of opening ceremonies coverage. My favorite part? That's easy:

Oh, this little boy was so cute. Too bad this is the closest picture I could find of him. If kidnapping was legal, I would kidnap him.

Did you catch the Opening Ceremonies? It was amazing. If that didn't get you in the spirit, I don't know what will. Maybe this would help:

Check out our bling.

We watched an episode of The Office the night before the Olympics that inspired this creation. Apparently there is not a single gold-lidded container of Yoplait in this town, which is okay because I don't like that flavor. All I could find was silver. So, it looks like Kenta and I won silver medals. But they are actually white gold. I wear mine and I make Kenta wear his when we watch primetime coverage of the Olympics. He thinks I'm weird.

So, if you invite me to do something these next two weeks, I may politely decline. I'll probably be watching a lot of this guy:

And listening to a lot of this guy:

That's my friend Tim Daggett, gymnastics commentator extraordinaire, who is always accompanied by his trusty sidekick, Elfi Schlegel. It saddens me to no end that John Tesh is no longer with them (what, with his extensive gymnastics knowledge and experience) but with names like Daggett and Elfi, you really can't go wrong. They taught me that the balance beam is about the width of your TV remote. I often think about that when I am channel surfing.

If you miss me, you can come on over and partake of Olympic Fever. But I will make you wear a white gold medal.

Celebrity Morph by MyHeritage

Why am I not famous?

Celebrity Collage by MyHeritage

I didn't see any resemblance whatsoever...until I watched myself morph. Now I am convinced that we really do look alike.
